The film is Bartosz Startek’s hobby. It was created during September walks around Bolesławiec with a camera. “Our city has many interesting historic buildings (I’ll leave out the City Hall :-), which we can also see in the film). I thought it would be worthwhile to invite internet users on a virtual walk around Bolesławiec,” says Bartosz Startek.
The film is the result of combining two techniques: time-lapse (the passage of time) and HDR (high dynamic range). At one point, Bartosz took several photographs: overexposed, normally exposed and underexposed. Later, during computer processing, they were combined into a single photograph. He repeated this procedure for one shot from several dozen to several hundred times at intervals, creating the effect of accelerated motion when assembled into a whole.
“I used a digital SLR camera with a 14 mm lens and a shutter release cable with an intervalometer. Thanks to fixed time intervals and the large number of photographs, I was able to display the resulting images as a film, at 25 photographic frames per second. I achieved a high colour depth using HDR technology. Recording the material took several days. Post-processing, meaning creating the film from the photographs, took about a week. This is my first montage of this kind; I hope the next ones will be just as interesting,” says Bartosz Startek.
If you make similar films or take similar photographs, contact our editorial office—we will show them to all the residents of Bolesławiec.
