The existing bridge, due to its poor technical condition and non-standard parameters, was dismantled at the beginning of September 2026, after the new bridge had previously been opened. Work is underway on the construction of a turbo roundabout on Zgorzelecka Street. For this reason, a section of the street was closed and detours were designated. The city became gridlocked, while business owners and residents are becoming increasingly impatient with these changes.

“I understand that if the work at the roundabout were visible and someone were doing something, one could wait calmly,” a reader wrote to us. “However, judging by what can be seen in the recording, there is no one there. It is 10:00 a.m., a working day. Why is nobody working at the roundabout? It was similar yesterday,” he added.

According to information provided by Magdalena Szumiata, spokesperson for the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, work at the roundabout was expected to be completed around mid-October 2026.

More about the GDDKiA investment in Bolesławiec

  • Each of the new bridges will have a two-lane carriageway, as well as a sidewalk and a cycle path ensuring good connections between the two riverbanks. (This solution is intended not only for motor vehicles, but also for pedestrian and bicycle traffic).
  • At both ends of the bridge crossings, turbo roundabouts will be built, with dimensions ensuring smooth traffic flow and complete freedom to choose the direction of travel.
  • DK94 will be reconstructed along a section of almost 600 m, and its load-bearing capacity will be increased to 11.5 tonnes per axle.
  • At the site of the current intersection of DK94 and Widok Street (provincial road No. 350), a roundabout will be built, while the existing roundabout at Zgorzelecka Street will be reconstructed.
  • The intersection of DK94 and Spacerowa Street (county road No. 2324D), as well as the intersection of DK94 and a municipal road (No. 104068D), will also be reconstructed.
  • Bus bays will be moved outside the main traffic-flow zone, and a sidewalk will be added on the northern side of Generała Nila Street.
  • A stormwater drainage system, road lighting and road safety elements will be built.
