On Friday, October 9, information reached the istotne.pl editorial office about a student who brought a knife to one of the secondary schools in Bolesławiec. The incident was confirmed in a conversation with us by the principal of the Zespół Szkół Techniczno-Architektonicznych in Bolesławiec.

According to his account, the item was in the student's backpack. The school learned about it from other students. School employees then asked the student to show the contents of his backpack and confirmed that he had a knife with him.

The knife was secured in a safe

The principal explained that it was a specialist rescue knife for cutting seat belts and breaking windows, used during firefighting interventions. According to his account, the student is involved in firefighting activities.

The boy reportedly explained that he was unaware the item was still in his backpack. School employees took the knife and placed it in a safe. As the principal said, the item was returned to the student after classes ended.

“It was a knife for cutting seat belts, a special, professional one,” said the principal, Jacek Jurkiewicz.

Principal: the school was calm

The information emerged on a day that online news reports referred to as “Bloody Friday.” Earlier reports about allegedly planned attacks on schools prompted readers to ask about the safety of schools in Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County.

However, the principal's account does not indicate that the incident described was an attempted attack or was connected with the online announcements. The interviewee did not describe any threats or the use of the knife against anyone. Instead, he stressed that the situation at the school was calm.

The principal also mentioned police presence at schools. At the same time, he noted that he knew about officers' activities at all the schools from accounts relayed to him. This is therefore not confirmation of the extent of patrols throughout the county.

“It was calm here,” assured the principal of the Zespół Szkół Techniczno-Architektonicznych.

Update 22:05

After the information was published, the student mentioned in the article contacted us. He explained that it was a knife for cutting seat belts and breaking windows. He also sent us a photo of it. He has it because he is involved in firefighting. Such a knife can help, for example, when providing assistance at an accident, to free injured people from a car.
