Emergency services exercises were held on October 7 at the technical facilities of Koleje Dolnośląskie on Pątnowska Street in Legnica. One of the most important elements of the operation was improving cooperation among services during situations involving several different hazards at the same time.

Two cars and a railcar at a railway crossing

One of the three prepared scenarios involved a serious accident at an active, unguarded railway crossing. Two passenger cars collided there. The vehicles were immobilized.

The next part of the scenario: a passenger railcar operating on the Lubań Śląski–Wrocław route approaches and collides with the immobilized cars.

Chemicals in a Carriage and a Fire in a Hall

The exercise scenario comprised three independent episodes in total.

The first concerned a chemical hazard in one of the railway carriages. The Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group operated at the scene. (Its task was to assess the hazard, identify the substance and take appropriate rescue measures).

The third episode took place in a hall used by Koleje Dolnośląskie for repairs and painting and bodywork on diesel and electric multiple units.

A fire broke out in equipment in one of the halls, accompanied by a loud explosion. When the hazard occurred, a significant number of employees were on the premises.

An additional element of the scenario was an operating overhead crane, with an operator in its cabin. Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, locate and evacuate injured people, and limit the consequences of the incident.

84 firefighters took part in the exercises

A total of 84 firefighters from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service took part in the exercises.

Partner organizations were also involved, including Koleje Dolnośląskie, the Legnica Emergency Ambulance Service, the Police, the Legnica County Office and the Legnica City Hall.
