The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the shooting of a police officer during official duties in Kraśnik Górny. A 33-year-old local resident has been charged, including with the attempted murder of an officer and illegal possession of a firearm.
The incident occurred on 24 September 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., at a property in Kraśnik Górny. Officers of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters were carrying out official duties there.
According to the prosecutor’s findings, at one point the 33-year-old man fired a Browning HP 9 mm semi-automatic pistol at one of the officers.
Police officer shot in the head
As a result of the incident, the 29-year-old police officer sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The prosecutor’s office describes the injuries as causing a condition that poses a real threat to life.
The officer’s condition is very serious.
Investigators believe that the suspect acted with the direct intention of taking the police officer’s life.
After the incident, the 33-year-old was detained. Earlier information from the services stated that after firing the shots, the man fled and police officers pursued him.
Serious charges against the 33-year-old
The prosecutor’s office brought charges against the Kraśnik Górny resident including attempted murder, causing serious bodily harm, an active assault on a police officer, and illegal possession of a firearm.
The man admitted to the alleged acts and gave an explanation.
The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor submitted a motion to the court for the suspect’s temporary detention for a period of three months.
He had previously been convicted in Germany
The 33-year-old had previously been convicted multiple times by German courts. Among the earlier cases was a 2024 judgment issued by a court in Bautzen for an offence involving the illegal export or import of firearms, their parts and components, and ammunition.
For the offences currently alleged, the suspect faces between 15 years’ imprisonment and life imprisonment.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office.
