The Volunteer Fire Service KSRG in Ulesie has appealed for support for the fundraiser for 5-year-old Nikoś. The boy has muscular dystrophy, and his family is bearing the costs of rehabilitation, treatment, specialist appointments and the necessary equipment.

The firefighters emphasize that they want to help their fellow member from the Youth Firefighting Team, whose younger brother is struggling with the disease:

The costs of rehabilitation, treatment, specialist appointments and the necessary equipment are enormous, which is why it is so important for information about the fundraiser to reach as many people as possible.

The firefighters from Różyniec also shared the fundraiser, joining the appeal for help for the boy.

Nikoś is only 5 years old

Nikoś’s parents, Joanna and Marcin, explain on the fundraiser page that in January this year they received a diagnosis concerning their son’s illness. The boy has muscular dystrophy, and doctors are still determining the exact form of the disease:

In January this year, we received a diagnosis concerning our son Nikoś of a very serious disease: muscular dystrophy, which will unfortunately progress and, later on, lead to severe disability in the child.

The genetic tests conducted so far indicate the possibility of either the more severe form of the disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, or the milder form—Becker muscular dystrophy. The family is awaiting another genetic test that should help determine the exact form of the dystrophy.

The parents emphasize that regardless of the final diagnosis, Nikoś requires ongoing specialist care and intensive rehabilitation:

Every form of muscular dystrophy requires rehabilitation, an appropriately selected diet and multidisciplinary care, so we cannot wait if we are to help our child.

Rehabilitation and care from numerous specialists are needed

As the parents explain, Nikoś should remain under the ongoing care of, among others, a geneticist, neurologist, dietitian, cardiologist, pulmonologist, orthopedist, otolaryngologist and ophthalmologist. Regular rehabilitation is also necessary.

The family notes that all these measures involve considerable expenses:

All of this is very expensive. Until the form is determined, we cannot even establish a foundation for Nikoś that would support us in the fight for his fitness and slowing the disease.

The parents want to do everything possible to preserve their son’s abilities for as long as possible.

He needs intensive, continuous rehabilitation so that he can walk for as long as possible, maintain respiratory function and take care of his little heart.

The parents admit that the situation is very difficult for them and that they cannot cover all the costs related to the disease on their own:

We are both helpless and terribly afraid for our little sweetheart ❤️ everything is very expensive and we cannot manage it alone.

That is why they are asking for both financial assistance and for information about the fundraiser to be shared.
