The opening round of the Lower Silesian women’s third league is behind us. Most teams played their matches on Saturday, 1 October. KS Olimpia Jawor defeated KS Korona Sulików without losing a set. UKS “Głuszyca” Głuszyca also added three points to its tally, overcoming KS KUS-KUS Sudety Kamienna Góra in four sets. MGLKS Sobieski Oława also recorded a victory, dismissing SL Salos RP Nowa Ruda. To conclude this round, on 3 October, UKS Tukan Iwiny hosted UKS Volley Bolesławiec in its own hall.

The Bolesławiec players started the match better. Thanks to effective serving, they quickly took a three-point lead. Tukan’s players made simple, unforced errors. After several unsuccessful plays, however, they managed to calm their nerves—first bringing the score level at 5, and then, thanks to a series of very good serves, pulling seven points clear of their opponents. In the following rallies, the hosts continued to score more effectively, but with a 21:9 lead, chaos once again crept into their ranks. The Bolesławiec team recalled its serving strength, which effectively hindered their opponents from building successful attacks, but this was only a brief surge. Although the visitors managed to make up five points, the Iwiny team’s lead was too large. Tukan won convincingly, 25:16.

The game became considerably more even in the second set. Both teams made somewhat fewer errors. The hosts were the first to take the lead in this set. This time, the Bolesławiec players did not allow their opponents to move more than three points ahead. Only several effective attacks from the wings enabled the hosts to build an advantage. A moment later, however, they completely lost focus again, scoring just two points while their opponents scored six. The score changed from 14:9 to 16:15. This time, the Iwiny players did not pay dearly for such carelessness, because despite their efforts, the Bolesławiec players were unable to level the score. In the following rallies, successful plays alternated with simple errors on both sides of the net. Ultimately, however, Tukan’s volleyball players again proved better, winning 25:22.

The situation in the third set changed like a kaleidoscope. First, the hosts built a fairly substantial lead. A moment later, Volley reduced the deficit to just one point. A wing attack, a good serve and an effective block once again allowed Tukan to move several points ahead. The Bolesławiec players reduced the gap again, however. This back-and-forth continued for almost the entire set, culminating in a tense finish. At 24:23, the hosts had set and match point, but squandered it in the worst possible way—by missing their serve. The situation quickly came back to haunt them, because after two more errors by the hosts, their opponents could celebrate victory in the set. Volley won 26:24.

In the fourth set, Tukan’s players, stung by their defeat in the previous set, gave their opponents no chance. The hosts had the advantage in nearly every aspect, while the Bolesławiec players were able to produce only isolated successful plays. The Iwiny team won the set convincingly, 25:10, and the entire match 3:1, making a successful debut in the third league.

UKS Tukan Iwiny – UKS Volley Bolesławiec 3:1 (25:16; 25:22; 24:26; 25:10).
