On Sunday evening, in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, a witness noticed a Peugeot whose driver was clearly having trouble maintaining the correct lane. The car was driving in a slalom.

The witness did not remain indifferent. He followed the Peugeot to the place where the car stopped. He then approached the driver and took his keys, preventing him from driving any further. He subsequently called the emergency number 112.

Police officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn were dispatched to the scene. The officers detained the Peugeot driver. He turned out to be a 39-year-old resident of Warta Bolesławiecka municipality.

A breathalyzer test showed that the man had nearly 2.5‰ alcohol in his blood. The appropriate services and the justice system will now decide on the further consequences of his irresponsible decision. This type of offense carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.

The entire situation shows how important witnesses’ response to dangerous behavior on the road can be. In this case, the man’s vigilance and his call to 112 allowed police officers to detain the intoxicated driver before he could cause a serious incident.
