The incident occurred on 20 October 2026, at around 6:45 p.m., in Bukowiec in Karkonosze County. Police officers patrolling the area noticed a motorcyclist who accelerated sharply when he saw the police car. The officers decided to stop him for a road check.
The chase ended with a collision with a police car
The rider failed to comply with the light and sound signals or the officers’ commands. Instead of stopping the motorcycle, he began to flee. During the escape, he violated traffic regulations, failed to signal manoeuvres and rode in the middle of the road, endangering himself and other road users.
After travelling several kilometres, the motorcyclist tried to turn onto a dirt road. He then struck the police car and fell off the motorcycle. The officers used the opportunity to detain the 47-year-old and began further proceedings.
He had a 10-year driving ban
When checking the man’s details, the officers determined that he was subject to a 10-year court driving ban. However, this was not the only irregularity uncovered during the intervention.
The motorcycle ridden by the 47-year-old displayed a registration plate assigned to another vehicle. In addition, the detainee’s behaviour indicated that he might have been under the influence of drugs. Final findings in the case will be possible after the blood test results are obtained.
He faces up to 5 years in prison
Police officers are clarifying the detailed circumstances of the incident. The man will face court for failing to stop for a road check, driving despite a court ban and using a registration plate not assigned to the motorcycle. These offences carry a penalty of up to 5 years’ imprisonment.
If the blood test confirms that he was driving under the influence of drugs, he will also have to answer for that offence.
Police remind the public that ignoring officers’ commands and attempting to flee a check can create a serious danger on the road. Such behaviour does not allow anyone to avoid responsibility and may lead to further legal consequences.
