Our Reader, a resident of the Kwiatowe housing estate, asked us to publicize the issue and drew attention to the damaged bus stops belonging to the Municipal Transport Company. “As long as I can remember, one of them has never had a bench installed,” the woman stresses.
What is more, the bus stops there are often used as toilets and places for drinking parties. Partygoers hide behind the vandalized shelters and drink. Rubbish is scattered all around: broken bottles, cigarette packaging and scattered glass. “I have the impression that these bus stops have simply been forgotten,” says the Reader.
In the resident’s opinion, the bus stops should either be repaired or replaced with other ones: without shelters, a roof and seating would be enough (bus stops of this type were installed in central Bolesławiec as part of the revitalization of the Market Square and the town greenery). “Then no partygoer could hide there,” she points out.
Katarzyna Kujawińska, MZK’s financial director, admits that she is aware of the issue. “Acts of vandalism occur very frequently in the Kwiatowe housing estate,” she states. “However, it is not true that there have never been benches at these bus stops. We installed them there twice. Each time, the result was the same: vandalism,” she adds. She also announces that the benches will soon be installed again.
The director also addressed the Reader’s idea of installing bus stops without shelters in the housing estate. “In my opinion, that would rather make the situation worse,” she stressed. “Most residents of the housing estate want our bus stops to have shelters, because they can always take cover there from rain or snow.”
After Istotne.pl intervened, the mess around the shelters was cleaned up.
