Our editorial office received information from people who, on Sunday, noticed a man staying with a dog in the Bolesławiec market square. The man was playing an instrument and collecting money from passersby.

The dog's behavior, however, aroused the greatest concern. According to witnesses, the animal lay on the ground for a long time and practically did not react to its surroundings. Many people were passing by, and it was noisy and crowded, while the dog reportedly remained in almost the same position.

One of the women we spoke to suspected that the animal might have been under the influence of medication or other sedatives. This is only her supposition, however—we have no information confirming that the dog was actually given any substances.

“People are approaching him, he is lying there, not moving. There are strangers, it is loud and bustling,” the woman reported. She pointed out that other dogs reacted to their surroundings, while this one remained calm.

Residents called the services

According to the woman's account, she tried to report the matter to the municipal guard. The guards were reportedly nearby, but—as the woman claims—they initially took no action and told her to contact the police.

“The municipal guard said that it was not their responsibility. They told me to call the police,” she reported. She added that she later also called the police and described the situation involving the dog.

Information provided to our editorial office indicates that there may have been more calls from concerned people. Eventually, officers could be seen talking to the man in the market square. We do not know, however, what was established or whether the animal's condition was checked in any way. We also have no confirmation that the police sent their own patrol to the scene. The dog's owner himself assured us that the dog was simply calm, and when he called it, it got up fairly quickly and began wagging its tail.

The mere fact that a dog is lying calmly, of course, does not mean that it is being harmed. Passersby were nevertheless concerned by the degree of its apathy and its lack of reaction to a very busy environment.
