An unusual detention took place in Jelenia Góra. An officer from the Criminal Division of Police Station I, while off duty, recognized on the street a man suspected of stealing a gold chain from a 91-year-old resident of the city. The officer detained the 32-year-old and handed him over to the patrol that arrived at the scene.
The theft occurred several days earlier on one of the streets in the Zabobrze housing estate in Jelenia Góra. The victim was a 91-year-old woman sitting on a bench.
According to the police findings, the man approached the senior woman from behind and suddenly tore a gold chain from her neck. He then fled the scene. The value of the stolen jewelry was estimated at approximately PLN 2,000.
The police began searching for the perpetrator. They analyzed the information collected and surveillance footage. On this basis, they identified a man suspected of committing the theft.
A breakthrough came on the afternoon of August 18. The Deputy Head of the Criminal Division of Police Station I in Jelenia Góra, who was off duty that day, spotted a man riding a bicycle in the city center.
The officer recognized the 32-year-old as the person suspected of stealing the chain. He immediately reacted, detained the man, and then handed him over to the Police patrol that arrived at the scene.
The 32-year-old was taken to the police detention facility. The collected evidence made it possible to charge him with particularly brazen theft. For this type of crime, the man could face up to 8 years in prison.
The police are continuing to clarify all the circumstances of the case and are carrying out activities aimed at recovering the stolen chain.
