Police officers from the Criminal Department in Bolesławiec established the identity of a 40-year-old woman suspected of burglary of the victim’s bank account using a payment card.
The woman took advantage of her new acquaintance with the man and her knowledge of where he kept his payment card. Having access to his belongings, she removed the card from his phone case and then went to shops in Bolesławiec.
The 40-year-old used someone else’s card 12 times in total. Three payments were completed, and the value of the purchases exceeded PLN 3,000. The next nine attempts to use the card failed because there were insufficient funds in the account. Unaware of this, the woman made further payment attempts, hoping they would go through.
The resident of Bolesławiec has been charged with burglary of a bank account. She will also be held responsible for attempting to carry out further transactions.
Burglary carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
