Officers from the Traffic Division of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters noticed an electric scooter rider whose speed exceeded the permitted 20 km/h.

The officers’ suspicions were quickly confirmed. While inspecting the two-wheeler, a police officer determined that the speed limiter had been removed from the scooter.

After this modification, the device could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h. This means that its capabilities were significantly greater than the speed permitted by law for electric scooters.

The 25-year-old was fined PLN 1,000 for riding a vehicle not approved for road use because its speed limiter had been removed.

Police remind the public that, under the applicable regulations, the permitted speed of an electric scooter is 20 km/h. Removing factory speed limiters may cause the device to travel much faster, thereby increasing the risk of losing control of it.

In the case of an electric scooter, speed is particularly important for safety. Its user is a vulnerable road user. They are protected by neither a vehicle body nor seat belts or airbags.

A collision with a car or another road user, as well as a fall at high speed, can have serious consequences. Therefore, police officers appeal for caution and remind people not to interfere with the factory speed limiters of electric scooters.
