What is happening with the footbridge at the municipal pond?

The footbridge is supposed to become Bolesławiec’s new landmark. As we reported, the contract for carrying out the project was signed on January 30, 2026, while completion of the work was scheduled for June 30.

The deadline has passed, but the footbridge is still not there.

Meanwhile, the area around the pond remained fenced off, as we reported in the article It Was Supposed to Be Bolesławiec’s New Landmark. There Is a Fence, Weeds and Dirty Banners. The Footbridge Is Still Missing.

A new explanation for the delay has now emerged.

“Some Rare Specimens Are Still Being Found”

During the August session of the Bolesławiec City Council, Mayor Piotr Roman spoke about the project: – We made the financial plan for “Renovation of the Municipal Pond and Its Surroundings” more realistic. Heresome rare specimens of fauna, flora and birds are still being found. This is causing the start of work on the municipal pond to be delayed somewhat..

The mayor also assured everyone that the city intends to continue the project:

What is delayed is not abandoned. We are calm. This project should be completed properly.

And he concluded: – As for whether it will be completed on time, we will see, because nature never sleeps..

The project is to transform the municipal pond

The construction of the footbridge is only the first stage of a much larger project. The project is called “Renovation of the municipal pond and its surroundings, improving water quality, increasing hydrological safety and implementing pro-environmental measures.”

The footbridge itself is to have two levels and measure 13.97 × 12.50 m. It will allow residents to observe nature while limiting human pressure on the most valuable parts of the ecosystem.

The project also includes access to the footbridge from the park path.

New benches and flower beds are to be installed around the pond, along with park lighting. The slopes will also be adjusted and new plants added, including historic roses and ornamental grasses.

That is not the end of the planned changes

Further stages of the project include, among other things, planting aquatic and reed-bed plants and introducing shrubs in the shoreline zone. Improving the condition of the existing trees is also planned.

The project documentation also includes features intended to support local fauna—shelters and nesting boxes.

The project is intended not only to improve the pond’s appearance, but also to increase its natural and recreational value. It also provides for improving the quality of the aquatic environment, increasing retention and reducing the urban heat-island effect.

A Footbridge Costing PLN 848,700

The investor is the Municipality of Bolesławiec. The project was prepared by architect Anna Horwat, and the contractor is MARKPOL from Trzebiatów. The value of the footbridge construction was set at PLN 848,700.
