The Bolesławiec City Office officially handed over the construction site for the first stage of an important environmental investment—the construction of a nature footbridge as part of the project “Renovation of the municipal pond and its surroundings, improvement of water quality, enhancement of hydrological safety and pro-environmental measures”. This is the beginning of comprehensive measures intended to restore the municipal pond’s natural character and strengthen its environmental and recreational functions.
More about the footbridge
The new two-level footbridge, measuring 13.97 × 12.50 m, will become a unique place for contact with nature. It has been designed to enable residents to observe nature safely while limiting human pressure on the most valuable parts of the ecosystem. Directing pedestrian traffic across the footbridge and along the access path from the park alley will help protect the pond’s natural environment while making its attractions accessible in an environmentally friendly way.
More than just a footbridge
As part of the investment, small-scale architectural elements will also be created—benches and flower beds—as well as park lighting in the form of posts and light strips. The slopes will be reshaped, and new plantings will enrich the area, including a collection of historic roses and ornamental grasses that will emphasize the natural character of the space.
The construction of the footbridge is the first step in a wide-ranging project to restore the municipal pond. Its main aim is to restore conditions in the water body that are as close to natural as possible and increase its importance for local wildlife. Subsequent stages include, among other things, planting aquatic and reed-bed vegetation, introducing shrubs in the shoreline zone, improving the condition of the existing trees, and installing elements supporting animal habitats—such as shelters and nesting boxes.
The project also addresses the climate challenges facing modern cities. Its implementation will help improve the quality of the aquatic environment, increase water retention in urbanized areas and mitigate the urban heat island effect. Educational activities will also be an important element, helping to raise environmental awareness among residents and visitors to Bolesławiec.
The investor is the Municipality of Bolesławiec. The project was prepared by mgr inż. arch. Anna Horwat, the works are being carried out by Przedsiębiorstwo Handlowo-Usługowe MARKPOL Dawid Hutor, while investor supervision is provided by GROMA GROSICKI & MAŁEK sp. j.
The cost of constructing the footbridge is PLN 848,700, and the work is scheduled for completion by 30 June 2026.
