We recently reported that Bolesławiec will gain a new landmark. A nature boardwalk will be built as part of the “Renovation of the municipal pond and its surroundings, improvement of water quality, enhancement of hydrological safety, and pro-environmental activities” project. We added that this is “the beginning of comprehensive measures intended to restore the municipal pond’s natural character and strengthen its ecological and recreational functions.”
What will happen to the swans when the work begins? The plan calls for relocating them to Klekusiowo for the duration of the works. This will not be a permanent relocation. The solution is primarily related to noise and increased activity around the construction site. The aim is to spare the swans, which are much-loved by the residents of Bolesławiec, unnecessary stress.
More about the boardwalk
The new, two-level boardwalk, measuring 13.97 × 12.50 m, will become a unique place for contact with nature. It has been designed to enable residents to observe nature safely while limiting human pressure on the most valuable parts of the ecosystem. Directing pedestrian traffic along the boardwalk and the path leading to it from the park lane will provide better protection for the pond’s natural environment while making its assets accessible in an environmentally friendly way.
Not just the boardwalk
The project will also include small-scale architectural features—benches and planters—as well as park lighting in the form of bollards and light strips. The slopes will be reshaped, and the area will be enhanced with new plantings, including a collection of historic roses and ornamental grasses that will emphasize the natural character of the space.
We will return to this topic.
