Wolves between Wartowice and Stare Jaroszowice
From a Reader we received a video recorded on August 19, in the late evening hours. The wolves were moving across a field located on the border of two municipalities – between Wartowice (Warta Bolesławiecka municipality) and Stare Jaroszowice (Bolesławiec municipality).
The appearance of these mammals in such a place may attract attention, but it does not mean that they pose a threat to residents.
Why do wolves appear in fields and near villages?
Wolves are extremely mobile animals that travel vast distances in search of food. Fields, meadows and the outskirts of settlements form a natural part of their territory. Predators appear near human dwellings mainly because of the presence of wild animals, such as roe deer and wild boar. This does not mean, however, that they seek contact with humans. On the contrary – a wolf usually avoids people.
Do wolves pose a threat to humans?
By nature, a wolf does not regard humans as potential prey and avoids encounters with them. Direct attacks on people are extremely rare, so the mere presence of this animal in the area should not be a cause for panic.
In the event of an unexpected encounter with a wolf, remain calm:
- Do not approach the animal, or try to feed or follow it.
- Give it space so that it can calmly move away.
- Take particular care when walking your dog – your pet should always remain fully under control on a leash, as a wolf may regard it as a rival.
