The incident occurred on the A4 motorway when a traffic jam formed due to a fatal accident. One of the drivers failed to exercise due caution and, according to police findings, became distracted while driving.
As a result, the car driven by the 31-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County collided with the rear of the vehicle in front of it.
Officers from the Traffic Division of the Bolesławiec police headquarters arrived at the scene. While carrying out their duties, they checked the driver and it then turned out that the matter was far more serious.
He was banned from driving
Police determined that the 31-year-old should not have been behind the wheel at all. The man was subject to a valid court-imposed driving ban issued by the District Court in Zgorzelec.
The ban was due to remain in force until November 2026. Despite this, the man decided to drive and additionally caused a collision on the motorway.
The 31-year-old was taken to the Police Station in Kruszyn. There, he was charged with driving a motor vehicle despite a valid court ban. Breaking a court-imposed driving ban carries a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.
Police remind drivers that a court-imposed driving ban means an absolute obligation to refrain from driving a car for the period specified in the ruling. Knowingly breaching it is not merely an offence, but constitutes a crime.
In this case, a check following an apparently minor collision revealed that the driver was subject to a court-imposed ban that was still in force.
