The works are causing serious traffic disruptions. Very long traffic jams are forming in the construction area, and drivers must be patient. Construction workers are directing traffic in the immediate vicinity of the works and regulating the passage of vehicles on an ongoing basis.
The demolition of the roundabout is another stage of a major project being carried out on national road no. 94. Drivers must prepare for the traffic organisation at this location to be changed many more times as the work progresses.
A turbo roundabout will be built in place of the old roundabout
The existing Jerzy Szmajdziński Roundabout will be replaced with a new solution. A turbo roundabout will be built here as part of the redeveloped road system in the area of the new bridges.
The project provides for the construction of two new parallel bridges over the Bóbr. One is being built on the northern side of the existing crossing, while the other will be constructed where the existing bridge stands; the latter will ultimately be dismantled.
Both crossings will have two-lane roadways, pavements and cycle paths. Turbo roundabouts have been designed at both ends of the bridges to ensure smoother traffic organisation and allow drivers to choose their direction without the need for conventional intersection solutions.
National road no. 94 will also be redeveloped
The scope of the project is considerably greater than the construction of the bridges alone. Nearly 600 metres of DK94 will be redeveloped, and the road will be adapted to heavier loads than before.
New drainage elements and lighting will be installed, along with solutions improving traffic safety. Changes to bus bays are also planned, as is the construction of a pavement on the northern side of II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street.
Drivers will have to wait a little longer
The project is ultimately intended to improve traffic capacity and safety in this part of Bolesławiec. Before drivers can use the entire new road system, however, residents will face further stages of work and the resulting changes to traffic organisation.
The works were initially expected to be completed in 2026, but the current completion date has been postponed. According to the latest information, the entire project is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2027.
Until then, drivers using this part of DK94 must expect further changes to traffic organisation. The current work at the roundabout is one of the stages in the redevelopment of the road system, which is intended to provide smoother travel through this part of Bolesławiec once completed.
