Weather alert for Bolesławiec County: level 3 heat warning and thunderstorms

Residents of Bolesławiec County must prepare for exceptionally difficult weather conditions. IMGW has raised the heat warning to level 3 and additionally issued a warning for thunderstorms with torrential rain, hail and strong winds for Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Residents of Bolesławiec County should exercise particular caution. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued two active weather warnings—one concerning heat and the other violent thunderstorms that may arrive as early as Tuesday afternoon.

Heat warning raised to level 3

The most important change is the raising of the heat warning from level 2 to level 3, which means the highest level of danger on IMGW’s three-level scale.

The warning is in effect from 4 August at 6:15 a.m. until 6 August at 8:00 p.m.. Forecasters predict maximum temperatures of 33°C to 35°C, while nights will remain very warm, with minimum temperatures of 18°C to 22°C. It will become somewhat cooler only on Thursday, when thermometers will show 29°C to 31°C.

Such high temperatures can be particularly dangerous for older people, children, pregnant women and people suffering from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

Violent thunderstorms possible in the afternoon

However, the dangers do not end there. IMGW has also issued a level 2 thunderstorm warning, which will be in effect from 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday until midnight.

Forecasts indicate that thunderstorms may bring:

very heavy rainfall of 30 to 40 mm,
wind gusts reaching 90 km/h,
localized hail.

Such phenomena may cause branches and trees to break, localized flooding of streets and temporary power outages. Drivers should expect a sudden deterioration in road conditions.

How to prepare

While the warnings are in effect, it is advisable to limit time spent in the sun during the hottest hours of the day, hydrate regularly and avoid strenuous physical activity.

Before the thunderstorms arrive, secure items left on balconies and properties, close windows and follow current weather updates. If a thunderstorm catches us outdoors, it is best to avoid staying under trees or near power poles.

Tuesday will be one of the most challenging weather days of the week in Bolesławiec County. First, residents will have to contend with extreme heat, followed by the possibility of violent thunderstorms. The services are appealing for caution and advising people to follow further weather updates.
