The experienced commander, former head of the Rocket and Artillery Forces of the Land Forces, who in the past—as a colonel—commanded the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade in Bolesławiec, described the authorities’ response as delayed and negatively assessed the level of preparedness of Polish society in the event of a military threat. According to the analysis presented by the general, the object that entered Polish territory may have been a Russian cruise missile.
The military expert pointed out that the incident may have been a deliberate provocation by the Kremlin aimed at testing the vigilance of our defense systems, or the result of a serious technical failure and the missile losing control. Kraszewski also recalled that the warhead of this type of missile carries a powerful explosive charge, posing a deadly danger. However, the former commander from Bolesławiec devoted the most attention to his critical assessment of the civilian population’s response to the activated alarm systems.
He pointed to informational chaos. In his opinion, after hearing the alarm sirens, Poles show a complete lack of knowledge about safety procedures. The general condemned the instinct to get into cars and attempt to flee by road, which in the conditions of a real attack increases the danger. Instead, citizens should immediately seek shelter in safe rooms. Jarosław Kraszewski also pointed to the need to introduce regular, recurring emergency-response training in civil defense.
“The worst thing you can do is flee chaotically. We simply don’t know what we’re supposed to do or where to hide,” General Kraszewski concluded on Polsat News, calling for the immediate education of society on how to respond to air incidents.
