The elephants’ return to Bolesławiec has become a reality. The distinctive figures, which for years stirred residents’ fond memories and were one of the recognizable elements of the cityscape, have reappeared in the city. This time, however, they were placed on Jeleniogórska Street rather than Wróblewski Street, where their location had initially been considered.
The topic of the elephants’ return had long attracted considerable interest among residents. Many people from Bolesławiec nostalgically remembered the figures that once stood on Wesoła Street, so every piece of information concerning their future met with a strong response.
During the April session of the City Council, Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman spoke about the possible placement of the elephants on Wróblewski Street. At the time, he announced plans to remove the distinctive heating pipes belonging to ZEC and create a new recreational space there.
According to the concept presented at the time, the reclaimed area was to be developed as a recreational spot with animal figures. The elephants were to be its main feature, while a giraffe was also among the ideas under consideration. The city authorities emphasized, however, that these were preliminary assumptions requiring further analysis and that no final decisions had yet been made.
Ultimately, the elephants returned to Bolesławiec, but a different location was chosen for them. The figures were placed on Jeleniogórska Street, where they can once again delight residents and attract the attention of people visiting the city.
Although the location turned out to be different from the original announcements, the elephants’ return will certainly please many residents. For some, they will be a new attraction in the cityscape; for others, a symbol of bygone years and a pleasant reminder associated with Bolesławiec’s history. Will the recreational space with additional animal figures announced for Wróblewski Street be created in the future? We will have to wait for the answer to that question.
