The idea for creating the decoration combines history, memories and Bolesławiec’s contemporary image. For Paulina Stefańczyk, the elephants are more than just a new element of the cityscape. They also represent a return to childhood and memories of the distinctive animal-shaped plant beds that were an inseparable part of Bolesławiec for many years.
– The Bolesławiec elephants immediately brought back childhood memories for me. When they reappeared in the city, I thought they were a great, very local motif that was worth transferring onto ceramics. In this way, I wanted to combine Bolesławiec’s history with its present and create a decoration that would be both a keepsake and a promotion of our city – emphasizes Paulina Stefańczyk
“Bolesławiec Elephants” is not only a decoration, but also an original idea for promoting the city. The Lady Blue studio consistently emphasizes that its products are made in Bolesławiec – the City of Ceramics. The company uses its products to promote local heritage both in Poland and abroad. It is the only ceramic company from Bolesławiec to mark its products with the inscription “Hand made in Bolesławiec – Poland”.
The city symbol boosts recognition of Bolesławiec ceramics
The idea of bringing the elephants back into the city space was positively received by residents and visitors to Bolesławiec. Paulina Stefańczyk believes that distinctive local symbols like these can effectively build the city’s recognition. By creating an elephant decoration on ceramics, Lady Blue wants to contribute to this promotion in a unique and original way.
The premiere of the ceramics featuring the “Bolesławiec Elephants” decoration will take place during this year’s Ceramics Festival. The products can be viewed and purchased at stand no. 47 – Lady Blue Ceramics, located on the corner of Bolesławiec Market Square, with an entrance from Prusa Street.
Paulina Stefańczyk has created many original and unique decorations, including for Karkonosze National Park, Koleje Dolnośląskie and the Wrocław University of Economics. Her ceramics also appeared at a film festival organized in the USA on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the film “Forrest Gump”. Lady Blue was the first Bolesławiec ceramic studio to become an official partner of the film.
The company also created a special decoration for the needs of the Polish Christmas comedy “Gingerbread Heart”.
“Bolesławiec Elephants” are another example that ceramics can be more than a beautiful object. They can tell the story of a place, evoke memories and simultaneously promote the city they come from. This time, elephants became the symbol of that story, returning to Bolesławiec after many years – first in the city space and shortly afterward on Bolesławiec ceramics as well.
