An example of responsibility, composure and readiness to act was set by members of the Youth Fire Brigade at OSP Nowogrodziec. On Monday, 27 July, after 5:00 p.m., three young firefighters – Szymon, Jan and Bogdan – assisted a 46-year-old man who fainted near the petrol station by OSP Nowogrodziec.
The boys immediately assessed the situation and took action. They called an emergency medical team, provided the casualty with first aid and stayed with him until the rescuers arrived. Thanks to their quick reaction, the man was not left without assistance at a critical moment.
This is another situation showing that the skills acquired during Youth Fire Brigade meetings are useful not only during training, but also in everyday life. First-aid knowledge, composure and readiness to act can be hugely important in situations threatening health or life.
The MDP Nowogrodziec supervisors stress that the practical preparation of young firefighters is one of the most important elements of their training:
This also proves that the hours devoted to learning and practising first aid are not wasted. The ability to provide first aid can save someone’s health or even their life. That is why we attach such great importance to ensuring that our firefighters not only acquire knowledge, but also know how to use it in practice.
And they added:
Szymon, Jan and Bogdan – thank you for your attitude. You are role models for your peers and the best proof that being a firefighter is not only about taking part in operations, but above all about being one every day.
The attitude of the young firefighters from Nowogrodziec deserves recognition. Their conduct shows that proper training, responsibility and a desire to help can enable even very young people to keep a cool head and respond effectively when every minute counts.
