The authorities responsible for monitoring the Bóbr River have published another update on the situation on the river. According to information provided on 24 July, no new cases of dead fish were found on the monitored section, the installation of safeguards at the dam in Pilchowice is under way, and residents using local water-supply systems can safely use tap water. At the same time, the ban on using part of the river remains in force.
During a field inspection carried out by the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection on the section from the Pilchowice Dam to Włodzice Wielkie, no dead fish were recorded. Measurements showed that oxygen conditions near the dam remain at a level similar to previous measurements. A decrease in dissolved oxygen concentration was observed in Marczów, while an increase was recorded in Lake Rakowickie and Włodzice Wielkie. Samples collected on 24 July are currently being analyzed in the laboratory.
A meeting of the District Crisis Management Team in Lwówek Śląski was also held on the same day. Representatives of TAURON reported that inflows into the Pilchowice reservoir had increased following the recent rainfall, causing the water level to gradually rise. The installation of the first modules of silt curtains, intended to limit the movement of suspended matter, has also begun. Initial tests confirm the effectiveness of this solution. Due to the improvement in water-quality parameters, the dismantling of aerators has also begun.
However, activities related to the search for potential sources of pollution have not yet ended. Wody Polskie reported the discovery of additional locations that could constitute illegal sewage discharges—three in Nielestno and ten in Czernica. Their legality is currently being checked, and further inspections are being prepared.
The State Sanitary Inspection reported that the microbiological quality of the water remains stable at most monitored points. However, tests of samples collected on 20 July showed exceedances of the standards at the point near the kayaking launch site in Nielestno. In Rakowice Małe and Włodzice Małe, the parameters are within the applicable standards. The next sample collection is scheduled for 27 July.
The Przedsiębiorstwo Wodociągów i Kanalizacji Dolina Bobru delivered good news. The company assures that the water supplied to residents of Wleń, Lwówek Śląski, Bolesławiec municipality, the city of Bolesławiec and Jeżów Sudecki municipality is completely safe and meets all quality requirements. It was emphasized that the company uses exclusively deep-water intakes, meaning that the situation on the river does not affect the quality of water flowing from taps.
Despite improving test results, the restrictions in force have not been lifted. The regulation issued by the Lower Silesian Voivode introducing a ban on using the waters of the Bóbr from the crest of the Pilchowice Dam to the Rakowice reservoir remains in force. The ban includes, among other things, bathing, entering the water, watering animals, recreational and commercial fishing, using the water for business purposes and using watercraft.
The authorities emphasize that the situation is being continuously monitored and that the decision to lift the ban will be made only when there are no doubts about the safety of residents and the condition of the environment.
