We received a report concerning the cleanliness of the Orka indoor swimming pool. The email’s author described deteriorating conditions at the facility, pointing, among other things, to poorly functioning showers, sand lying on the bottom of the pool basin, and an alleged fecal incident in the area of the slide.

In a conversation with istotne.pl, the director of MOSiR emphasized that he had received no information from the facility manager or lifeguards confirming that such an incident had occurred on the evening of July 15. If such a situation had taken place, the appropriate procedures would have been implemented immediately. (This would involve temporarily closing the facility, carrying out disinfection and chlorination. In such a case, water quality tests are also performed, and the facility may be reopened only after the proper results have been obtained).

The director also noted that such situations had occurred in the past, but each time they were handled in accordance with the applicable procedures. At the same time, he announced that the lifeguards’ logs and documentation from the aforementioned day would be checked.

MOSiR admits: the showers need repairs

The head of the facility did not dispute the comments concerning the showers. He admitted that the water system in the 16-year-old facility requires modernization work.

As he announced, during the next scheduled maintenance break, elements of the system are to be unclogged or replaced so that the showers operate more efficiently.

The director also emphasized that Orka is heavily used throughout the year, which affects the rate at which its equipment wears out. He added that MOSiR plans to obtain funding for a broader modernization of the swimming pool.

“The first step is to report it to the staff”

The head of MOSiR pointed out that if a hazard or troubling situation is noticed at the swimming pool, the first step should be to inform the lifeguards or facility staff.

As he noted, if an incident genuinely threatening users’ safety had occurred, appropriate action would have been taken immediately and the information would have been recorded in the documentation.
