The Ministry of Climate and Environment organized a meeting of the Interministerial Team for Counteracting Crisis Situations and Environmental Threats on the Oder River. During the meeting, the current situation on both the Oder and Bóbr rivers was discussed. The Lower Silesian Voivode, Anna Żabska, also participated in the consultation.
The most important topics were the current results of water-quality monitoring, actions carried out by the services, and the situation at Pilchowice Reservoir and on the Bóbr River.
Good news from the Oder
Representatives of the services reported that the results of Oder monitoring remain normal. No golden algae, which caused an environmental disaster in previous years, were detected in any of the monitored sections of the river.
As emphasized, the water oxygenation parameters have not reached critical levels. At the same time, institutions responsible for environmental safety maintain constant monitoring and remain ready to respond quickly in the event of any worrying changes.
What is the situation on the Bóbr?
The services also presented the latest report on the Bóbr, prepared on July 14, 2026.
During the inspections, no dead fish were found. The river channel along the section from Pilchowice Dam to the Rakowice Small Hydroelectric Power Plant remains unobstructed, and no blockages or sediment accumulation were recorded.
According to the information provided, the situation on the river also does not affect the safety of residents using the water-supply network. The water delivered to homes is safe and fit for consumption.
Monitoring continues every day
The services conduct ongoing water-quality measurements, including oxygenation and temperature, and regularly collect additional samples for laboratory testing.
At the same time, attention was drawn to the fact that exceedances of microbiological parameters continue at the measuring point in Nielestno, near the kayak launch site. They concern enterococcal bacteria and Escherichia coli. At the other locations tested, the results are within the applicable standards.
What about Pilchowice Dam?
Information was also provided on the operation of Pilchowice Dam. A biological water flow is being maintained which, according to a declaration by Tauron Ekoenergia, will not be increased even in the event of heavy rainfall.
The ban remains in force
The Voivode reminds residents that Regulation No. 18 of July 4, 2026, introducing a ban on using the waters of the Bóbr River along the section from the crest of Pilchowice Dam to Rakowice Reservoir, remains in force.
The ban covers:
- entering the water and bathing,
- watering animals,
- amateur and commercial fishing,
- using the water for commercial purposes,
- using any watercraft.
As emphasized, the restrictions will be lifted only when the relevant services are fully certain that using the river poses no threat to people’s health and safety.
The services appeal to residents
At the end, the services appealed to residents not to repeat unverified information concerning the situation on the Bóbr. If dead fish, dead animals, or other worrying phenomena are observed, the emergency number 112, the relevant County Crisis Management Center, the Police, or the State Fire Service should be notified immediately. Every report is verified by the appropriate services.
