We have written several times in our pages about the revitalization of Bolesławiec’s Market Square and municipal Planty. In July this year, we reported that thanks to this investment, the city hall won first prize in the competition organized by the Society of Polish Urban Planners for the best-developed public space in Poland (in the “Revitalized public space” category). And there would actually be nothing to complain about if not for the fact that bird droppings are accumulating on the benches on the renovated Planty.

Our Reader asked us to publicize the problem. “Birds keep soiling the new benches with droppings,” the man says. “It’s frightening to walk there; a stroll could end with an unpleasant surprise. Does the city intend to do anything to scare these birds away so that they do not sit on the new benches? The Planty are beautiful; they are the city’s showcase. It’s a little embarrassing that they are so heavily soiled with bird droppings.”

We contacted Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall, about the matter. “The benches are usually washed once a week. If necessary, they are washed more often,” she stressed. She added that the city hall “does not plan to scare away the birds.”
