Benches and deck chairs placed near the fountain have disappeared from Bolesławiec market square. The reason is reportedly preparations for the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival, which this year will take place from 19 to 23 August. However, the furniture was removed at the beginning of the month.
The decision outraged residents who use the market square, particularly in the afternoon and evening. In the middle of summer, many people come there with children, meet friends or stop by the fountain. Now there is nowhere to sit, even though a significant part of the square remains empty.
The fact that the dismantling was carried out long before the event begins has caused the most emotion. Commercial booths and other Ceramics Festival infrastructure have not yet been set up in the square. The square has therefore been deprived of benches, but no visible work requiring this space has started there.
According to residents, the benches and deck chairs could easily have remained in place for at least another week. The booths could be installed even a day before the actual work connected with preparing the stands begins. There is no need for the market square to be less welcoming to residents and tourists for more than two weeks.
Czy ławki powinny być zabierane już na początku sierpnia?
Every year, the market square has to be rearranged for the Ceramics Festival. However, it is difficult to understand why facilities serving residents are removed so early, before there is actually a need to use the space they occupy.
The benches and deck chairs will not return until after the Ceramics Festival ends. This means that for most of August, people visiting the city centre will have significantly fewer places to rest.
Preparing the city’s largest event takes time and proper organisation. However, it should not mean unnecessarily taking away from residents a space they could normally continue to use for many more days.
