Police officers from the Traffic Division of the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters stopped, after a chase, a 32-year-old woman driving an Alfa Romeo who had failed to stop for a traffic check. Fleeing from the officers, the woman created a serious danger for other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. After abandoning the vehicle in a cornfield, she attempted to escape on foot together with a passenger.

Thanks to the efficient cooperation of traffic police officers and community police officers, both were quickly detained. It turned out that the driver did not have the required driving licence, and a test showed that she was under the influence of psychotropic substances. For the offences committed, she faces up to 5 years in prison.

During a patrol in the city, officers from the Traffic Division attempted to stop the driver of an Alfa Romeo for a traffic check. The woman ignored the officers’ visual and audible signals, accelerated sharply and began fleeing through the city streets.

During the chase, the 32-year-old engaged in a series of dangerous behaviours. Among other things, she drove onto a cycle path, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to immediately move out of her path to avoid being hit. Her behaviour posed a real threat to the life and health of other road users.

After driving along another section of the route, the woman left the road and drove the car into a cornfield. She then abandoned the vehicle together with the passenger and attempted to escape on foot.

Officers from the Community Police Unit of the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters immediately joined the operation. While searching the surrounding area, the officers quickly found and detained both fugitives.

Checks in police systems showed that the 32-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County did not have a driving licence. The examination also showed that she was under the influence of psychotropic substances. The woman was detained and taken to the detention facility, while the vehicle was secured and towed to a police car park.

The 32-year-old will face charges including failing to stop for a traffic check, driving without the required authorisation and driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. If laboratory tests confirm the presence of drugs in her system, she faces up to 5 years in prison, a long-term driving ban and substantial financial penalties. The court will decide her further fate.

We appeal for responsibility on the roads. The holiday season is a period of increased traffic, so every driver should obey the regulations and follow instructions issued by police officers. You should never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or substances that have similar effects to alcohol. Road safety depends on the responsible decisions of all road users.
