A serious-looking road incident occurred today before noon on voivodeship road no. 297 just beyond Brunów. After losing control of the vehicle, the passenger car left the roadway and came to a stop in an unusual position—almost vertically against a tree.

The first information provided to the emergency services indicated that an unconscious person was inside the vehicle. Two crews from the State Fire Service Rescue and Firefighting Unit in Lwówek Śląski, a medical rescue team and a police patrol were dispatched to the scene.

When the rescuers arrived, however, it turned out that the Peugeot driver was conscious. The man received medical care and was then taken to hospital.

According to the preliminary findings of officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski, a 79-year-old resident of Lwówek County was behind the wheel. According to the police, the man failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions.

That was not all, however. A breathalyzer test showed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Due to the complaints he reported, he was taken to hospital, where, in addition to the necessary diagnostic tests and treatment, blood is also to be collected for further testing.

Officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The final findings are expected to determine the exact course of events and confirm the driver’s sobriety status.
