Why is this important?
Because water saves lives.
This is not a slogan—it is a fact. Dehydration, overheating, lack of shelter, burns caused by a chain—this is everyday life for thousands of animals on hot days.
How can you help animals in summer? It is simple:
💧 Put out a bowl of water
Put the bowl in a place where animals can easily find it—by the house, shop, company or in the park. The bowl should be kept in the shade, on a stable surface and away from direct sunlight. Change the water regularly—it must be fresh, clean and cool.
☀️ Provide shade and shelter
On hot days, animals primarily need access to a cool, shaded place where they can shelter from the sun and high temperatures.
- If a dog lives in a kennel, let us make sure it is well insulated. A wooden kennel covered with roofing felt works best, protecting against heat and rain.
- Avoid metal—sheet metal or a chain heats up extremely quickly and may cause burns.
- Remove the chain – a dog should not be kept tethered – a chain restricts movement, prevents the dog from seeking shade and resting comfortably.
🐕 Ensure space and comfort
A dog staying in a pen or enclosed space should have enough room to move around calmly, lie down and rest comfortably.
🚫 Do not leave a dog in a car
Not even for a moment. Even with the window slightly open.
A car in the sun is a deadly trap – the temperature inside can reach as high as 70°C in just a few minutes.
🚶♂️ Avoid walks in full sun
Hot asphalt can burn a dog’s paws. It is best to go for walks in the morning or late evening, when it is cooler. If you need to go out during the day, make sure the walk is short.
Check the surface with your hand—if it is too hot for you, it is too hot for the dog too.
❗React when you see an animal in need
Have you noticed an animal without water? A dog chained in full sun?
Do not look the other way.
Call. Take a photo. Report it. Your reaction may save a life.
