The city accuses PKP of neglecting its duties
In the letter addressed to the president of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, the authorities of Bolesławiec express their dissatisfaction with the lack of effective action to remove graffiti from the historic railway viaduct over the Bóbr River. The document was prepared on the letterhead of the Mayor of Bolesławiec and signed by the deputy mayor, Renata Szewczyk-Sacher.
The problem itself is well known to residents. For years, there have been voices saying that one of the city’s most distinctive historic landmarks is being systematically vandalized, while the actions of the facility’s owner are insufficient.
Official letter or political jab?
The tone of the correspondence is surprising, however.
The document refers, among other things, to “admirable consistency” in ignoring duties, the “silent acceptance” of the destruction of a historic landmark, and “perseverance in ignoring numerous reminders”.
The authors of the letter also write about an “official void” into which the city’s subsequent submissions are supposedly falling, and at the end they expect a response containing “a work schedule, not another set of corporate evasions”.
It is difficult to deny the local government’s right to criticize the facility’s administrator. The question, however, is whether the city authorities should use language of irony and barbs in official correspondence conducted on behalf of all residents.
The viaduct problem remains unresolved
What is most puzzling, however, is something else. The attached correspondence history shows that the matter has been ongoing for many months, meetings have been held, letters exchanged, and cooperation declarations made. The result remains the same, however – graffiti is still present on the viaduct.
One may therefore get the impression that instead of solving the problem, both sides are increasingly focusing on shifting responsibility onto each other.
And residents continue to look at the vandalized historic landmark.
