The star of the competition was Dawid Barański, coached by Paweł Wiśniewski. He first confidently won the high jump competition with a result of 208 cm, and then made a successful attempt at 214 cm. After two failed attempts, cheered on enthusiastically by the entire national team, he cleared the height on his third attempt, achieving the qualifying standard for the U20 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon (USA). The result of 214 cm is currently the best in Europe and the third-best in the world in the U18 category.
Also performing very well was Vanessa Michaluk, who finished fifth in the 100-metre hurdles with a time of 14.03 seconds. The competition took place in difficult weather conditions, with strong winds blowing into the athletes’ faces. Vanessa was supported on site by her coach, Małgorzata Markowska, who served as the national hurdles team’s chaperone during the tournament.
The excellent performances of our representatives contributed to Poland’s victory in the competition’s overall classification. With a substantial advantage, the Polish team proved to be the best of all the participating national teams.
Heartfelt congratulations to Dawid, Vanessa and their coaches for representing the club, city and country with such distinction on the international stage.
