The incident occurred during a routine road check. The police checked the driver's details in their information systems, and it quickly turned out that the 19-year-old did not have a driving licence. However, that was not the end of his problems.

The breathalyser test showed that the man had more than one per mille of alcohol in his system. The officers also conducted a drug test, which indicated the presence of marijuana. In connection with the result, blood was taken from the driver for further laboratory tests, which are to confirm the presence of intoxicating substances.

While carrying out their duties, the police also checked the vehicle's 18-year-old passenger. They found marijuana on the young man. According to the officers, the amount seized could have been used to prepare more than 30 retail portions of the drug.

The 19-year-old will be held responsible for driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance and driving without the required authorisation. Driving while intoxicated alone carries a penalty of up to three years' imprisonment, a heavy fine and a multi-year driving ban.

The 18-year-old passenger will also face legal consequences. Possession of intoxicating substances may carry a penalty of up to three years' imprisonment.

The police remind the public that driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs is one of the greatest threats to road safety. Intoxicating substances and alcohol reduce concentration, lengthen reaction times and significantly impair the ability to assess situations properly, increasing the risk of tragic road incidents.
