PWiK is introducing a new system for settling wastewater charges, which will take effect in 2012. A new item will be introduced: rainwater and meltwater (so-called rainwater). In this way, those who have so far used the sewer system free of charge will also pay for rainwater discharge.

Hypermarkets, road managers and industrial plants did not cover the costs of the sewer system, while measurements show that they discharged two-thirds of the rainwater from parking lots, yards and plant roofs into the sewer system. This was paid for by household owners and individual customers. Introducing the new tariff will create an additional customer group, and wastewater costs will be distributed fairly among everyone using the sewer system.

According to preliminary forecasts by Józef Król, introducing the new charging system will reduce bills for households and individual customers by approximately 10 percent. Residents of Bolesławiec will have to accept or amend a survey sent to every customer, containing calculated areas (roofs, driveways) from which rainwater and meltwater are discharged. The rainwater charge will be calculated on this basis.

PWiK proposes various ways of managing rainwater. This will make it possible to use the rainwater and avoid paying anything for discharging it into the sewer system.
