A dangerous-looking incident occurred on Sunday, 17 May, on the A4 motorway near Chojnów. Young athletes from Bolesławiec were traveling in a Mercedes Sprinter van. They were players from two basketball teams heading to matches in Wrocław.
A problem with the vehicle’s rear wheels occurred while they were driving. The driver managed to control the situation and stop the van. Another vehicle was brought to the scene, and the players continued their journey in it.
The athletes arrived at the games with a slight delay. Both teams won their matches.
“A technical failure occurred, involving the loosening of the bolts on one of the rear wheels,” explains Łukasz Jaźwiec, president of PKS Bolesławiec.
According to the carrier, after noticing worrying symptoms, the driver stopped the vehicle and secured the parking area. The van was not fit to continue driving, so a replacement vehicle was provided. After tightening the bolts, the driver was supposed to return to Bolesławiec in the damaged van.
The PKS president’s statement also indicates that the situation surprised the company. The vehicle had previously been in the workshop, and after returning to service it had already completed local routes. According to the carrier, nothing indicated that such a breakdown could occur.
