On Monday, 11 May, the incident took place at the 156th kilometre of the A4 motorway. Officers from the Wrocław branch of the Lower Silesian ITD stopped a truck belonging to a Polish carrier for inspection. The vehicle was transporting steel products from Kraków to Jawor.
Mobile diagnostic station revealed serious problems
The truck was directed for a detailed examination using a mobile diagnostic unit. The inspection revealed numerous technical irregularities.
The most serious of them concerned a cracked front stabilizer and oil leaks. Both defects were classified as dangerous. Inspectors also found a damaged windscreen, malfunctioning lighting components and incorrect marking of the long and heavy vehicle.
Ban on further travel and proceedings against the carrier
In connection with the vehicle’s technical condition, officers seized the truck’s registration certificate and issued a ban on further travel until the most serious failures had been repaired.
The driver was fined. In addition, administrative proceedings were initiated against the carrier and the person responsible for managing the transport operation.
ITD is increasingly using mobile diagnostic units
Mobile diagnostic stations are being used more and more often during roadside inspections of trucks and buses. Thanks to them, inspectors can quickly detect serious technical defects without having to direct the vehicle to a stationary inspection station.
The services emphasise that the aim of such actions is to remove from traffic vehicles that may pose a threat to road safety, particularly on heavily trafficked routes such as the A4 motorway.
