The incident occurred on the morning of April 23. The Mercedes, worth one million zlotys, had previously been stolen in Berlin. German authorities informed the Polish police that the car might be heading toward the border.
After receiving the theft alert, Wrocław police officers began operations and deployed patrols along key sections of the A4 motorway and access roads. Officers from Środa Śląska were also involved in the operation.
A breakthrough came near Nowa Wieś Kącka, where police located the wanted vehicle. Additional patrols were sent to the scene, including traffic officers and officers from the department responsible for combating vehicle crime.
Seeing the police, the Mercedes driver stopped the vehicle on the motorway and attempted to flee on foot through a nearby cultivated field. He was arrested after a brief chase. He turned out to be a 30-year-old resident of Lower Silesia.
Investigators determined that the recovered Mercedes had license plates assigned to another vehicle. The car itself was secured as evidence in the case.
The man was charged with handling stolen property, driving despite having his driving privileges revoked, and using license plates not assigned to the car. The court ordered his temporary detention. He faces up to five years in prison for the alleged offenses.
