A dangerous incident occurred in Bolesławiec on the night of April 21–22. Shortly after 10:00 p.m., the fire service was dispatched to an apartment on Kościelna Street. The report concerned a person who had fainted while bathing.

After arriving at the scene, firefighters conducted an assessment. Their equipment detected carbon monoxide at a level of 50 ppm. This is a dangerous gas, commonly known as the silent killer, which is odorless and invisible, and whose presence can pose a serious threat to health and life.

Two people were evacuated from the apartment. An emergency medical team was also called to the scene.

The injured person was transported to hospital, where they received further medical assistance.

The services remind residents that carbon monoxide is particularly dangerous during the heating season, but the threat can also arise throughout the year. Its emission may be caused by faulty gas heaters, defective ventilation or obstructed chimney flues.

Firefighters urge residents to have heating systems inspected regularly and to install carbon monoxide detectors in their apartments. Such devices have repeatedly helped prevent tragedies.
