A dangerous chase through the streets of Legnica and along expressways ended with the arrest of Kacper D., a 23-year-old resident of the area around Wrocław. The man, who had never held a driving licence, ignored police orders and fled, posing a serious threat to other road users.

Escape through the city and along expressways

The incident occurred on 13 April 2026. Police officers attempted to stop the BMW driver for a roadside check, but he failed to comply with their orders and began fleeing through the city streets. In a built-up area, including near a primary school, he was reportedly travelling at speeds exceeding 100 km/h.

The driver then entered the S3 expressway and the A4 motorway, where he continued to flee. During the chase, he grossly violated traffic regulations—crossing a double solid line, failing to yield and not adjusting his speed to the conditions.

Collisions and a warning shot

On the A4 motorway, he collided with four other vehicles. Several people were in the cars; as established, they did not suffer serious injuries. When D. ignored the roadblock, police were forced to take decisive action—one of the officers fired a warning shot.

The fugitive was eventually arrested.

Driving ban and previous conviction

It turned out that the 23-year-old had never held a driving licence. As he explained, he had apparently taken the examination about six times. Each time, unsuccessfully.

In the past, he had repeatedly got behind the wheel, for which he had already been convicted. He was also subject to a two-year ban on driving motor vehicles, which he ignored.

Moreover, he was serving a three-month prison sentence under electronic monitoring, which was due to end just a few days after the incident.

Despite this, he ignored the court’s decision and went to a town near Legnica to buy the BMW visible in the photographs.

Charges and possible sentence

The man was charged with, among other offences, failing to stop for a roadside check, violating a court-imposed ban and creating a direct threat to the life and health of others by grossly breaching safety rules.

He faces a sentence of between three months and five years in prison.

Court decision

The prosecutor’s office applied for temporary detention, citing, among other reasons, the risk of flight and the possibility of further offences. The District Court in Legnica granted the application and ordered the 23-year-old to be held in custody for two months.

“It’s my passion”

The suspect admitted to the charges. In his statements, he said that driving a car was his passion, even though he had failed the driving test several times. He also admitted that he fled from police because he was afraid of the consequences.

The proceedings are still ongoing.
