This time, the swans from the municipal pond in Bolesławiec built their nest next to the barrier surrounding the pond. On Wednesday, April 8, cars from “Klekusiowo” arrived near the nest and a protective cover was installed.

This is intended to protect the swans from passers-by who approach the barrier and look into the nest, stressing the birds. The female swan is currently laying eggs. Will the swans have young this time?

It is worth mentioning that the nest and its surroundings are under constant observation by a camera, which was installed several years ago by the host of “Klekusiowo” – Mieczysław Żuraw.

Therefore, instead of trying to look behind the cover, we suggest using the camera to observe the birds through it.

Mute swan – breeding season

In spring, a female mute swan usually lays between 5 and 8 eggs, although both smaller and larger broods do occur. The incubation period lasts about 35–38 days, during which the female mainly keeps the eggs warm, while the male guards the territory and scares off potential threats. However, the male sometimes briefly replaces the female on the nest when she leaves to rest or feed.

After hatching, the young, called cygnets, are immediately able to move around and follow their parents. In favorable conditions, most of them have a chance of surviving, although their number depends, among other things, on the availability of food and safety around the nest.
