The incident took place last week. – The command center of the Lubin police station received a report from the Voivodeship Emergency Notification Center that the driver of an Opel was making strange maneuvers at one of the gas stations, which could indicate that he was intoxicated – reports Sub-Inspector Sylwia Serafin from the local KPP. – The deputy duty officer immediately contacted the reporting witness, who followed the Opel driver and gave the police officer the vehicle’s location and direction of travel. The duty officer remained in constant contact with the witness and relayed his location to the preventive patrol.

Thanks to constant radio contact with the duty officer and telephone contact with the witness, the officers quickly located the vehicle indicated by the reporting party. The police used their lights and siren, thereby ordering the driver to stop. However, he did not react and continued driving. The officers blocked his path, preventing his escape.

A 48-year-old resident of Żary County was behind the wheel of the Opel. The officers immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol on him. The man had trouble maintaining his balance and was slurring his speech. He did not know where he was. He was certain that he was in Wrocław.

The officers tested the driver’s sobriety. The breathalyzer showed that the 48-year-old had more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. The man lost his driving licence, was taken to a police cell, and his car was towed to a police parking lot. He now faces up to five years in prison for driving while intoxicated and failing to stop for a roadside inspection.

And adds:

The lack of imagination and responsibility shown by people who get behind the wheel after drinking, condemning other road users to possibly become their victims, requires an uncompromising approach to this threat.
