Police are warning about a fraudster whose activities had previously been reported on social media. Unfortunately, on February 2, officers received a report that one of the residents of the Mirsk commune had fallen victim to a crime.
– According to the victim, an approximately 70-year-old man approached her. He was carrying a backpack and wearing a light-colored baseball cap. The man claimed to be a foreigner, saying that he was Italian, but he spoke Polish very well – reports Junior Aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz of the Lwówek KPP.
The fraudster offered to exchange currency, offering 500 euros in exchange for 300 zlotys. The spokesperson: – The woman, suspecting nothing, agreed to the transaction.
She adds:
It later turned out that the euro banknotes handed over were counterfeit – they bore the imprint “souvenir” and had no value as legal tender.
This is not the first report concerning this man. Similar warnings had previously appeared in the public sphere, but despite appeals for caution, another fraud has occurred.
Police remind residents and appeal to them:
- Do not exchange money with strangers.
- Do not let strangers into your homes.
- Pay particular attention to older people and inform them about the risks.
- Any attempted fraud or suspicious behavior should be reported to the Police immediately.
