The history of the railway line from Wrocław’s Psie Pole station to Trzebnica is an example of determination to reverse the nationwide trend in the approach to rail transport. It was here that trains returned in 2009, even though connections across hundreds of kilometres of the railway network were being closed throughout Poland.
Lower Silesia said a firm “no” at the time and, together with the establishment of the first railway operator created from scratch by a regional government—the Koleje Dolnośląskie—it renovated the railway line using its own funds and restored services after years.
“The first KD train ran from Legnica to Międzylesie, but the idea of taking over the railway line to Wrocław was born in Trzebnica. In 2009, the train of the first regional-government railway company created from scratch travelled on the first tracks in Poland owned by a regional government,” Marek Łapiński, a regional assembly councillor and, in 2009, marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, said during the anniversary of the line’s opening.
Since then, the Wrocław–Trzebnica service has gained nearly one million passengers a year.
Although maintenance work has been carried out on the line to date, after 16 years it requires a major renovation. Therefore, for the next few months, services will be operated by buses, including express buses running directly between Wrocław Zakrzów and Trzebnica.
Replacement transport until June
From the beginning of February, Koleje Dolnośląskie will run buses to Trzebnica from Wrocław Zakrzów, a railway station located one kilometre from Wrocław Psie Pole station. The aim is to make the transfer between train and bus as short as possible for passengers.
When travelling from Trzebnica to Wrocław, however, some services will allow passengers to use two railway stations—both Zakrzów and Psie Pole.
Every bus running on this line will have a clearly visible board showing the name of the destination station, just like a train. Buses skipping stops between Wrocław Zakrzów and Trzebnica will additionally be marked “direct”.
Buses replacing trains will run on the Wrocław–Trzebnica–Wrocław routes in three variants:
- directly from Wrocław Zakrzów to Trzebnica, and from Trzebnica to Zakrzów and Psie Pole;
- stopping at all intermediate stations (Wrocław Pawłowice, Ramiszów, Pasikurowice, Siedlce Trzebnickie, Brochocin Trzebnicki);
- on the Siedlce Trzebnickie–Pierwoszów Miłocin route.
The third route results from the road layout—the Pierwoszów Miłocin stop is not located along a road route, so it will be served by a separate vehicle coordinated with every bus at the Siedlec Trzebnicki stop.
Bus services will run on these sections from February 1 to June 13, 2026.
Bus timetables are coordinated with KD trains stopping at Wrocław Psie Pole and Wrocław Zakrzów stations. Departure times are available on kolejedolnoslaskie.pl, in Koleo and on the Passenger Portal.
Buses travelling from Trzebnica to Wrocław Psie Pole station will terminate in front of the Psie Pole station building.
A huge logistical challenge: as if taking a bus from Trzebnica to Naples every day
Instead of 16 pairs of trains a day, buses will operate more than 80 services, often carrying passengers in pairs or in groups of three. On weekdays, they will cover more than 1,820 km, equivalent to the distance from Trzebnica to Naples, Italy.
During the renovation, the buses will cover more than 210,000 km in total, equivalent to more than five circumferences of the Earth. The tender to operate most of the services was won by the Wrocław-based company Polbus.
