Last Saturday (17 January), representatives of MKS Bolesłavia competed in the Lower Silesian Indoor U16 Championships and the accompanying nationwide athletics meet. The club returned from Wrocław with a haul of medals, numerous personal bests and one of the best indoor-season results in Poland among U16 athletes.

Lower Silesian Indoor U16 Championship Medalists

Particularly deserving of recognition are the province championship medalists:

  • Mateusz Pierzchalski – 🥇 Lower Silesian champion in the 1000 m with a time of 2:45.38 (personal best),
  • Szymon Gródecki – 🥇 gold medal in the triple jump with a result of 12.00 m (PB),
  • Lena Kureła – 🥉 bronze medal in the high jump – 145 cm (PB).

Result of the Day: Dawid Barański Among the World’s Best

The biggest sensation of the competition was Dawid Barański’s performance during the nationwide meet. The MKS Bolesłavia athlete cleared 212 cm in the high jump, setting a personal best. That result places him among the absolute world leaders among U16 athletes in the indoor season. Barański also produced an excellent 60 m hurdles run – 8.24 s (PB).

Other athletes also recorded very good performances:

  • Szymon Gródecki – shot put 10.18 m (4th place, PB),
  • Lena Kureła – 60 m hurdles 10.47 s (7th place, PB),
  • Julia Piotrowska – shot put 7.65 m (6th place, PB), triple jump 8.08 m (PB),
  • Natalia Zubik – 600 m 1:48.55 (PB),
  • Laura Kuszka – 60 m hurdles 10.94 s, 300 m 47.85 s (PB),
  • Aleksandra Skirpan, Anna Kasperek and Victoria Smoleński – further personal bests in sprint events.

Nationwide Meet – Older Age Categories

Personal bests were set by, among others:

  • Antoni Karp – 600 m 1:26.92,
  • Vanessa Michaluk – 60 m hurdles 8.71 s,
  • Emilia Burmas – 400 m 60.08 s,
  • Jagoda Nadarzyńska – 300 m 46.40 s, 60 m 8.88 s,
  • Wiktor Kijowski – 400 m 52.04 s,
  • Maksymilian Krzystanek – high jump 174 cm,
  • Michalina Czopko – long jump 4.49 m,
  • Bartosz Karpiak – 1000 m 2:54.27,
  • Hanna Strzelecka – 200 m 29.17 s.

A Strong Signal Ahead of the Rest of the Season

The performance in Wrocław confirmed the MKS Bolesłavia athletes’ strong form and their excellent preparation for the indoor season. Numerous personal bests, provincial championship medals and Dawid Barański’s result show that the club matters not only regionally, but also on the national stage.
