Community police officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec recovered a car worth PLN 10,000 before its owner had even managed to report the crime. A resident of Lubelskie Voivodeship left the vehicle due to a breakdown in a cemetery car park in Bolesławiec County. After the holidays, when he returned for his property, he noticed that the parking space was empty.

When submitting a report at the Bolesławiec Police unit, he was surprised to learn that his car had already been recovered and that he could collect it.

In this case, the vigilance, experience and knowledge of the community police officers proved decisive. They had noticed a vehicle appearing near the property of a man known to the local Police. The officers suspected that the car might have come from a crime or been used to commit other prohibited acts.

The officers established that, several hours before the car owner arrived, a 34-year-old man had towed away the disabled vehicle and then stolen power tools from inside it. The car, worth PLN 10,000, was handed over to the resident of Lubelskie Voivodeship.

The perpetrator tried to hide, knowing that he was wanted, but the community police officers successfully arrested him.

The 34-year-old from the Nowogrodziec municipality was charged with burglary and failing to stop for a roadside inspection. He faces up to 10 years in prison. In addition, for an earlier traffic offence, he was taken directly to a correctional facility, where he has a five-month prison sentence to serve.
