The District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań has filed an indictment with the District Court there against a 56-year-old woman from Lubań, who was accused of fraud, providing healthcare services without the required qualifications and operating a motor vehicle after consuming a psychotropic substance in the form of methamphetamine.
– The investigation established that the accused, a nurse by profession, operated a nursing-services business in Lubań from May 2022 to April 2025. During that time, she defrauded four victims by misleading them about the alleged need for additional diagnostic tests supposedly necessitated by their state of health – explains Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokeswoman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.
The victims paid between PLN 300 and PLN 820 for these tests.
The nurse told one person that she had a vitamin deficiency, and others that they had elevated levels of so-called D-dimers. The spokeswoman said: – The victims went to the laboratory at the Łużyckie Medical Centre in Lubań and repeated the tests. The results showed that the parameters mentioned by the accused were within the normal range.
She also attempted to defraud three more people by sending pre-litigation payment demands to their home addresses, seeking amounts ranging from PLN 537 to PLN 977 for supposedly performed diagnostic and laboratory tests, even though the tests had not actually been carried out. However, the victims refused to pay these charges.
The investigation also established that the accused provided patients with healthcare services involving the diagnosis and treatment of diseases without holding the necessary qualifications, while misleading the victims about having them. The prosecutor said:
After taking blood from one patient for diagnostic tests, she informed her that the results showed a vitamin deficiency. She offered to administer vitamin infusions. After the substance was administered, the victim felt unwell later that same day, lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital in Jelenia Góra for hospitalization.
The investigation also established that on 18 November 2024 and 3 January 2025, the accused drove a Mercedes passenger car in Lubań while under the influence of a psychotropic substance (methamphetamine).
The woman did not admit to committing the offences of which she was accused. She provided explanations.
The District Prosecutor in Lubań applied non-custodial preventive measures against her in the form of police supervision and a ban on conducting activities involving the provision of healthcare services.
The offences with which the woman was charged carry a sentence of between six months and eight years’ imprisonment.
She had no previous criminal convictions.
