A fire broke out in an unoccupied building located at the intersection of Leśna and Chrobrego streets.
Firefighting operations lasted several hours.
The Nowogrodziec – news service reported the fire:
Tonight, at around 3:00 a.m., a building fire occurred in Nowogrodziec on Bolesława Chrobrego Street. Numerous fire service units are working at the scene, including an aerial ladder truck.
Firefighters from OSP Nowogrodziec describe the course of the overnight operation as follows:
At 3:00 a.m., on Christmas Eve, a dispatch was received for a fire in an abandoned building on Chrobrego Street. When our two units arrived at the scene, we found a fully developed fire in the utility section of the building. The residential section was threatened by the flames. We supplied water to defend this section and sent firefighters wearing breathing apparatus inside to rule out anyone being present.
We protected the part of the building that had not been consumed by the fire, set up an aerial ladder and, as additional forces arrived, directed further water streams at the fire. Once the fire was brought under control, we began dismantling the unstable gable and roof truss elements to eliminate all remaining hotspots. The provincial road was closed for the duration of the operations. At 8:00 a.m., one of our units remained at the scene to monitor the fire site.
Fire service units from Bolesławiec, Nowogrodziec, the Nowogrodziec housing estate, Czerna, Gierałtów and Zebrzydowa took part in the firefighting operation. A police patrol and an emergency power crew were also present at the scene.
